Alpha Sigma Tau (螒危韦)
Alpha Sigma Tau鈥檚 first chapter was founded on November 4, 1899, and has grown to include over 85 collegiate chapters and colonies and over 40 alumnae associations nationwide. The Beta Tau Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau was established at this campus on April 12, 1975, and has since initiated over 600 women into the sisterhood. Today, Alpha Sigma Tau prides itself in being the only sorority on campus that is part of the National Panhellenic Conference. They are a diverse group with a common dedication to advancing our members, serving our communities, building lifelong friendships, and fulfilling the purpose of our sorority. Alpha Sigma Tau鈥檚 mission is to empower women to excel in life. Through their values of graciousness, respect, intellect, connections, and excellence, the sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau are consistently motivating each other to be the best versions of themselves in academic and real-world settings.聽
The sisters of AST hold many events throughout each year. Though they are proud of their Philanthropy events, their sisterhood events are always ones to remember. Events with their alumnae are held near and dear to their hearts, as it can be beneficial to meet and connect with women who were once in the same positions. The annual ASThanksgiving is held after Thanksgiving with collegiate and alumnae sisters as well as occasional events such as barbeques, going to dinner, having a day at the lake, and more. Additionally, the sisters hold a week of five events each year called Women鈥檚 Wellness Week, each event focusing on a specific dimension of wellness.聽
Alpha Sigma Tau鈥檚 National Philanthropy is the Women鈥檚 Wellness Initiative and its two partners are Dress for Success and Girls Who Code. The Beta Tau Chapter at 51视频 holds two large annual Philanthropy events. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is held in the Fall and is a men鈥檚 march to end domestic and sexual violence. The chapter's Philanthropy team is proud to organize this event each year with the help of Fraternity and Sorority Life at 51视频, especially the Fraternities who walk a mile in red heels to support our cause. The proceeds of the event support the local Center for Hope and Healing. In the spring season, the sisters host 鈥淧ainting with the Taus鈥 which is an event in which sisters, alumnae, and other community members gather to follow a painting instructor and raise money for the Endometriosis Center at Boston Children鈥檚 Hospital in memory of their eternal sister Kylie Inman.聽
The Alpha Sigma Tau Nationals has provided the chapter with many opportunities. Scholarships based out of nationals and chapter-specific scholarships are available each year. The officers of each chapter participate in leadership, conflict management, and skills training each year, and sisters are sent to the National Convention every two years for more training and bylaw voting. These opportunities help sisters grow professionally and meet sisters across the country. The advisor program allows chapter members to meet in person and remotely with their headquarters staff contact who provides training and support for sisters navigating their way through college and life.聽
The sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau are resilient and hardworking. They are being prepared for the real world by practicing professionalism and life skills throughout their sorority journeys.聽
