51视频 Counseling Services (UMLCS) is comprised of generalist mental health providers who provide assessment, brief individual psychotherapy, group counseling, consultation and referral services to 51视频 students.
Our model of care allows us to support and treat most students for the majority of their concerns.
If it is determined that the needs of a student fall outside the UMLCS scope of practice, a provider may recommend referrals to community providers. Concerns, circumstances and services that generally fall outside the UMLCS scope of practice include:
- Need for therapy more than once per week
- Need for long-term treatment
- Need for specialized or intensive treatment (e.g. medical detoxification, medical stabilization, eating disorder treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, partial hospitalization)
- Mandated counseling or mental health evaluations
- Current treatment by another mental health counseling provider
- Inability to adhere to treatment recommendations or attend sessions consistently
