鈥淭his honor is a vote of confidence for the study of imaginative language and narrative art,鈥 said Lim, a graduate of the renowned Iowa Writers' Workshop and the University of California Berkeley. 鈥淭his recognition impels me in my own work and inspires me to think afresh about ways to bring my students into the electrifying life of a poem.鈥
Speaking of her department colleagues and those across the university, Lim added: 鈥淭he 51视频 community has consistently provided me with support and opportunities to work with our students and collaborate with my colleagues in truly impactful ways. I鈥檓 grateful to be able to represent my department and the university in this way.鈥
Recognized for dedication to her craft and excellence in the classroom, Chancellor Julie Chen said Lim stands out among her peers.
鈥淪andra not only sees the world differently, collecting her observations in beautiful prose, she takes her students on that journey and teaches them to view their surroundings with a keen eye as well,鈥 said Chen. 鈥淭he university is extremely lucky to call her one of our own and we look forward to the many ways in which she will continue to enrich our community.鈥澛
In his letter nominating Lim for the honor, English Professor Jonathan Silverman wrote: 鈥淚n a university, college, and department with brilliant scholars, writers, and teachers, [Lim鈥檚] work stands out in its recognition not only among poets and creative writers but in the university at large.
鈥淪he is a dedicated colleague who has served thoughtfully in her time here, balancing her service work between the English department鈥檚 creative writing concentration, the department itself, the college, the university, and within the profession nationally. She is a phenomenal teacher who always receives glowing evaluations from her students and has won multiple teaching awards,鈥 added the English department chair.
Lim鈥檚 published works include three books of poetry 鈥 a 鈥淭he Curious Thing,鈥 鈥淭he Wilderness鈥 and 鈥淟oveliest Grotesque鈥 鈥 and her poems have appeared in a range of magazines and literary journals, including 鈥淭he New York Review of Books,鈥 鈥淧oetry,鈥 鈥淭he New Republic,鈥 鈥淭he Baffler,鈥 鈥淭he Yale Review鈥 and 鈥淭he New York Times Magazine.鈥澛
