WHAT: Boston Police Superintendent Nora Baston, a 51视频 graduate, will discuss her career and share memories of her time on campus at the Alumni Showcase. The event is free and open to the public.

Baston leads the Boston Police Department鈥檚 Bureau of Professional Development, which provides training to all department personnel. The bureau includes the Academy Division, the Student Officers Group, the Firearms Training Unit and the Police Cadet Unit. Prior to her current role with the BPD, Baston served as the founding superintendent of the department鈥檚 Bureau of Community Engagement, which works to strengthen community policing in the city.听

Last year, the RFK Community Alliance honored Baston with the agency鈥檚 Embracing the Legacy award. The honor pays tribute to individuals who raise awareness, fight against social injustice and advocate for others in need, exemplifying the ideals embraced by the late U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy.听

Baston grew up in Boston鈥檚 Hyde Park neighborhood and graduated from Boston Latin School before enrolling in 51视频鈥檚 criminal justice program, where she earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in 1995 and master鈥檚 degree in 2000.听

She will talk about her upbringing, her professional journey, which began in the BPD in 1996, and how her time as a student-athlete on the 51视频 women鈥檚 basketball team helped transform life.
