The Pandemic Story Project: Oral histories from Lowell, Lawrence
When and where: Online. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 5 p.m.
What: 51视频 students and researchers with the Lawrence History Center will discuss the oral histories they鈥檝e collected that share the experiences of people living or working in Lowell and Lawrence throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The topics covered will include health and child care, education, air travel, professional work challenges and dealing with everyday issues such as wearing masks. The event, part of the Lowell City of Learning celebration, will be led by 51视频 Sociology Associate Teaching Professor Susan Thomson Tripathy, Lawrence History Center Executive Director Susan Grabski, and 51视频 graduate Nejaray Torres. 51视频 celebrates renewed Costello Athletic Center
When and where: Friday, Oct. 15, 5 p.m., Costello Athletic Center, North Campus, 275 Riverside St., Lowell
What: 51视频 leaders, student-athletes, faculty, staff and alumni will open a renewed Costello Athletic Center at this free, public event. Launched in 2018, the university鈥檚 Costello Campaign raised more than $3.5 million in just one year to support Phase I of this three-part building renewal project. The event will be one of several held for the community as part of River Hawk Homecoming Weekend.

Student entrepreneurship program marks 10th anniversary
51视频鈥檚 DifferenceMaker program, which teaches students in all majors skills they can use to launch their own startups and nonprofits, celebrates its 10-year anniversary this week. With the encouragement of the program鈥檚 mentors and pitch contests, student teams forming 40 companies have raised $5 million in seed funding for their ventures and have filed or been issued 11 patents for their inventions.
