Art and Design Majors Exhibit Work, Share Inspiration

When and where: Exhibit runs through Wednesday, Jan. 8. University Gallery, Mahoney Hall, South Campus, 870 Broadway St., Lowell

What: 51视频 students pursuing bachelor of fine arts degrees are displaying their senior thesis projects at a free exhibit for the community and campus. The show features a variety of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture and 3D interactive installations, by artists who hail from Framingham, Lowell and Methuen, along with Pelham, N.H. Innovation Hub Hosts Co-Working Day for Small Business Owners

When and where: Wednesday, Jan. 8, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 51视频 Innovation Hub, Harbor Place, 2 Merrimack St., Haverhill

What: Entrepreneurs throughout the region interested in learning about the resources available at 51视频鈥檚 Innovation Hub in Haverhill are invited to Community Co-Working Day, a free event during which participants can try out the center鈥檚 fabrication lab, hold a meeting in a conference room and network with other small business owners. Free Event Traces History of Famous Shipwreck

When and where: Wednesday, Jan. 15, 10 a.m. O鈥橪eary Library Mezzanine, South Campus, 61 Wilder St., Lowell

What: The history behind the 1816 sinking of the French frigate La Medusa, the famous painting it inspired and the discovery of the ship鈥檚 wreckage more than a century later will be recounted by Charles Mazel, the technical director of the expedition that found the vessel鈥檚 remains off the coast of Africa. The event will be presented by 51视频鈥檚 Learning in Retirement Association (LIRA), which offers free enrichment classes and activities. Free parking will be available in the nearby Wilder Lot. Entrepreneurs, Venture Capitalists to Lead Forum on Funding

When and where: Tuesday, Feb. 4, 5:30 p.m. Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2), 51视频 Innovation Hub, Fourth Floor, 110 Canal St., Lowell. Note: This event is rescheduled from Wednesday, Jan. 8.

What: Medical device and biotechnology entrepreneurs looking to map the financial growth of their startups will hear from experts in the field at a program about venture funding. Speakers are scheduled to include Bill Yelle, a faculty member in 51视频鈥檚 Manning School of Business and entrepreneur-in-residence at Partners Innovation Fund; Nancy Briefs, co-founder and CEO of Altrix Bio; Dr. Maria Berkman, director, Broadview Ventures, and Vinit Nijhawan, interim executive director at the Massachusetts Technology Transfer Center in the UMass President鈥檚 Office. The event is presented by the Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2), a joint venture of 51视频 and UMass Medical School that helps medical-device and biotech startups bridge the gap between idea and market.
