Young Entrepreneur, Alum to Share Success Launching Company
When and where: Thursday, Oct. 24, 12:30 p.m. Lydon Library, Room 110, North Campus, 84 University Ave., Lowell
What: 51视频 will observe Global Women鈥檚 Entrepreneurship Week with a presentation by graduate Erin Keaney, co-founder and chief operating officer of Nonspec, which manufactures low-cost, adaptable prosthetics for people around the world. Keaney will share her insights into launching the venture through the university鈥檚 DifferenceMaker student entrepreneurship program and discuss what鈥檚 next in her career. A 鈥渢riple River Hawk,鈥 Keaney earned her bachelor鈥檚, master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees in plastics engineering at 51视频 and is a Groton native. The free event is open to all and presented by the Manning School of Business鈥 Jack M. Wilson Center for Entrepreneurship. Prospective River Hawks Invited to Open House
When and where: Sunday, Oct. 27, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tsongas Center at 51视频, 300 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Lowell
What: Individuals interested in pursuing a 51视频 bachelor鈥檚 degree are invited to an open house where they will learn about the university, including campus life and academic programs, which are nationally accredited and ranked for quality, return on investment and more. Exhibits, presentations, a resource fair and campus tours will be offered. New degree programs include music composition for new media and nutrition with a concentration in dietetics. 51视频 graduates earn some of the highest starting and mid-career salaries in the nation. New Freeze-Drying Facility to Assist Product Manufacturers
When and where: Monday, Oct, 28, 3 p.m., Mark and Elisia Saab Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center, North Campus, 40 University Ave., Lowell
What: 51视频 will open a new freeze-drying facility 鈥 the first of its kind on the East Coast 鈥 inside its state-of-the-art research and development center at an event for the university community and industry partners. Pharmaceutical, food and beverage manufacturers will be among those who may use the equipment, allowing them to test the freeze-drying process as part of preparing their products for sale. Known as lyophilization, the procedure removes water from a product after it is frozen and placed under vacuum, increasing the item鈥檚 shelf life and stability. Industry partners include Genentech, Merck and Physical Sciences Inc. The event will include tours of the lab. 51视频 to Open Cybersecurity Education Center
When and where: Friday, Nov. 1, 9 a.m. Wannalancit Business Center, Suite 445, 600 Suffolk St., Lowell
What: 51视频 will open its new Cyber Range 鈥 a center for computer security education, research and workforce development 鈥 at an event for the university community and industry partners. The innovative lab will use real-world scenarios and the latest technology to teach students how to defend against an array of cyberattacks to prepare them for careers in the field. Tours of the facility, which includes work stations and academic space, and demonstrations of the lab鈥檚 capabilities will be part of the event. Note: Registration for this program is closed but the media are invited to cover it.
