U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan Headlines Lunchtime Lecture

When and where: Wednesday, Oct. 9, 11:45 a.m. 51视频 Inn & Conference Center, 50 Warren St., Lowell.

What: U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan will join 51视频 Chancellor Jacquie Moloney for a conversation about issues important to constituents in Massachusetts鈥 3rd District, which Trahan represents. Topics are expected to include Trahan鈥檚 thoughts on the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump and on her work as a member of the House of Representatives鈥 Arms Services Committee. The free program is the latest in 51视频鈥檚 Lunchtime Lecture series, which engages the campus and public in educational and cultural topics of interest. The event is presented in partnership with the Moses Greeley Parker Lectures. Note: Registration for the public is now closed, but the event is open to the press.

Educators, Policymakers, Public Unite at Forum

When and where: Thursday, Oct. 10, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Keynote address at 5 p.m. 51视频 Inn & Conference Center, 50 Warren St., Lowell

What: Teaching students of all ages how to better communicate, resolve conflict, interact with others and manage their emotions will be the focus of a 51视频 College of Education forum for educators, researchers, policymakers, students and the public. 鈥淟everaging School Climate to Promote Student Social Emotional Learning鈥 will feature a keynote address by Juliette Berg, an expert in the field, along with presentations by 51视频 Vice Provost for Student Success Julie Nash and College of Education Assistant Prof. Jack Schneider, an authority on educational policy and reform. The forum, the Panasuk Symposium on Educational Research, Policy and Practice, is named for its founder, Regina Panasuk, an award-winning 51视频 professor emeritus. 鈥楽tartups to Watch鈥 Spotlights Innovations Born at 51视频

When and where: Thursday, Oct. 10, 5:30 to 8 p.m. 51视频 Innovation Hub, Third Floor, 110 Canal St., Lowell

What: 鈥淪tartups to Watch鈥 will spotlight early-stage businesses based at the 51视频 Innovation Hub and across the region that are pursuing advances in the fields of medical device, robotics, sustainable aquaculture and more. Some of the startups, including Nonspec 鈥 which makes low-cost, adaptable prosthetics 鈥 began with assistance from 51视频鈥檚 entrepreneurship programs, including its DifferenceMaker Program, which teaches students skills they can use to launch their own ventures and address needs in the community. The program will feature a talk by entrepreneurship education expert Steven Tello, 51视频鈥檚 vice provost of graduate, online and professional studies. River Hawk Homecoming is 125 Years Proud

What: One celebration for every generation, River Hawk Homecoming will mark 51视频鈥檚 125th anniversary with events for alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, friends and the public. Unless otherwise noted, all events will be held at the Tsongas Center at 51视频, 300 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Lowell. Family friendly activities include:

  • Men鈥檚 ice hockey 鈥 Fans will cheer on the River Hawks at two games as they face off against the Colgate University Raiders on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:15 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at www.tsongascenter.com, by calling 866-722-8780 or in person at the box office.
  • River Hawk Way 鈥 A free outdoor festival with carnival games, food, music and pony rides, the event will include the 40th reunion of 51视频 men鈥檚 ice hockey players from the 1979 NCAA Division II national championship team. The festival will immediately precede the second half of the weekend鈥檚 hockey double-header. Saturday, Oct. 19, 3 to 6 p.m.
  • Community Service Day 鈥 Alumni, students and friends will meet up at 51视频 before heading out to sites across the city to volunteer for nonprofit organizations such as House of Hope and the Wish Project and other projects.   • Jennifer鈥檚 Fun Run/Walk 鈥 Named in memory of 51视频 graduate Jennifer D鈥橝mour 鈥98, the 5K race funds scholarships for the women鈥檚 cross-country and track-and-field teams. The certified course runs along both sides of the Merrimack River. Saturday, Oct. 19; registration starts at 8:30 a.m.; the race begins at 10 a.m.
