This webinar will provide a brief overview of Department of Defense (DoD) funding agencies and priorities, describe the clear differences in approaching DoD funding opportunities (and program officers) from other federal research agencies, and offer tips and tricks to optimize PIs’ chances of winning DoD funding. The webinar will be led by Paul Tuttle, Grants Consultant at Hanover Research. Paul began in research and proposal development at NCAT in 2001 as a funding opportunities specialist and managed proposal development at WSSU and UNCG through 2010. From 2011 to 2013, he was a Hanover Research grants consultant, providing proposal development and strategic consulting to clients in four sectors (higher education, K-12, healthcare, and nonprofits). In 2013, he was invited to become Hanover’s first Managing Grants Consultant, supervising a 16-person team. In 2015, he returned to NCAT as the Director of Proposal Development; in 2022, he returned to Hanover as a grants consultant.
Using his MA in English (with a concentration in persuasive writing), he has helped investigators and program directors obtain over $180 million in external funding from nearly all federal funding agencies and many of the major foundations. A member of NC RAA, NORDP, NCURA, and SRAI, he is often an invited speaker at those organizations’ conferences.
